Lover of fashion, passionate about personal image, and former fashion executive now dedicated to assisting professional women level up!
Even though I have struggled with my own weight over the years by being an emotional eater that loves food, restaurants, and good wine (all a recipe for disaster on a girls waist line)–I truly understand just how difficult it is to stop looking at the scale.
Consequently, I’ve become more disciplined throughout the years with food, but I can’t tell you how important it has been for me to just accept my body.
The truth is, I’ve never been a small woman. I am what they call “big boned” with curves. This means I always weigh more than I look. It took a lot of time and effort to accept my body and finally knowing that I can still have amazing style regardless of my size!
At times, we can become fixated over the numbers on the scale (totally understandable). We must remind ourselves that life goes on, and just because our weight fluctuates, doesn’t mean we need to be RUDE to ourselves. YES, RUDE! Stop looking at the scale and judging yourself!
We need to honor ourselves and dress like we give zero damns because that’s what we deserve! I have clients of all different shapes and sizes, and know for a FACT that ALL women are beautiful. I have full bodied women standing at a size 22 full of confidence, who will put a model size 6 to shame! Why? Because girlfriend knows how to dress her body at a size 22! She honors and accepts her curves, and shops for the right items to flatter HER body and align with her personal style.
As a woman that has been every size in the rainbow, I want to give you 3 tips that will make you LOVE what you see in the mirror, regardless of what the scale says.
While you’re going up and down the scale, accept your current size and buy it! When you go shopping, you may notice you are a size 10 in one brand and a size 12 in another. This is normal! The important thing is the garment fits! You should also keep in mind which fit flatters you most. If your hips or bust are dominant, I recommend going up a size and tailoring down if necessary for an optimal fit. Tailoring makes all the difference!
You can make yourself look thinner in a matter of seconds by wearing the right colors in the areas that you want to minimize. The trick is to know that dark colors absorb light while light colors attract it. So if you want to draw attention away from areas you are sensitive about, wear darker colors in those areas to absorb the light. Then, you can highlight another area of your body, like your face, with great makeup to attract light.
Nothing makes you feel worse than opening your closet and looking at a bunch of clothes that no longer fit. Yep, it’s probably temporary, but I recommend folding those items down into a storage container or putting them all in the back of your closet.
In order for you to see what you have and make good outfit choices, you need to be looking at the clothes that are working for you today!
The most important thing is to stop looking at the scale and just accepting your body! I promise you, the scale does not control your confidence. All you really need is a firm grasp on your sense of style and you will be ready to take on the world.
