I can’t tell you how many women I speak to who will initially tell me that they don’t have a SENSE OF STYLE…
Let me tell you, that’s simply not true!
Every woman has a point a view when it comes to the way they dress and the way they want to show up in the world.
What happens as women mature is that they are no longer interested in following the popular fashion trends or whatever the latest hot celebrity is wearing.
Maturity clarifies a sense of self, so we no longer have the need to identify with a certain aesthetic because it’s the “cool” thing to do.
Also, a Polished Woman has done the work! She knows who she is, so she does not want to look like anyone else but HERSELF.
When it comes to developing your signature look, there are 3 things that I recommend doing with a nice cup of tea or glass of wine alone:
1) DEVELOP YOUR PERSONAL STYLE STATEMENT
This is one of the most powerful things that I’ve ever done as a young developing professional. I decided how I personally wanted to be perceived and created a MANTRA that I could say to myself everyday to keep me motivated, and remind me of goals. This statement also helps when shopping. Before purchasing an item, I always refer to my MANTRA and if the item fits the image, I purchase and wear it with pride! My current Style Statement is, “Confident Individual Pioneer.”
2. BUILD AN OUTFIT INSPIRATION STORY BOARD
Take a little time and search the web or magazines for outfit inspiration. Think about the Mantra you create for yourself and find looks that exhibit the appearance that you would like to achieve. You can create a digital story board using PINTEREST or purchase a few magazines from the grocery store to cut up and create on a piece of paper.
3. INVEST IN BASICS AND PURCHASE ONLY ITEMS YOU LOVE
No wardrobe, regardless of your aesthetic, will function without a great capsule of basics. These are the items with no bells and whistles, such as tailored slacks, pencil skirts, and blazers in neutral colors (black, navy, and grey). I always recommend that you invest in the best quality and fit that you can afford. Then, commit to purchasing only the items you LOVE! Have you ever purchased an amazing shirt and did not know what to wear with it? Well, 9 times out of 10 you were missing the basic pencil skirt or slack to create an outfit. A good capsule of wardrobe basics is a major game changer!
