When I think of personal appearance, the first word I think about is POWER!
I often tell people during conversations on personal style and image to never underestimate the power of an amazing outfit. Over 20 years ago, with my first full-time check fresh out of college, I purchased 3 suits and 6 months later I started traveling the world developing product for one of the coolest fashion brands at the time. Those suits were able to communicate that I was professional, educated, and ready for business without me saying a single word.
When life takes over, it’s very easy to become unattached with how we show up in the world. At any given time we can have a million things on our plates, and the last thing that we are worried about is an outfit! But what I’ve learned through the years is that it’s very important to check in with ourselves to ensure we don’t get ourselves in a rut.
Nothing is worse than waking up, looking in the mirror, and not recognizing your own reflection. So years ago, I started making it a priority to check in with myself every fashion season. I know that this may come off as a little vain, but with a husband, 3 kids, and a business to run, I’ve got to schedule some me time to ensure I’m not walking around looking like a complete disaster! (Yep, it happens)
So every season, I develop a Personal Style Statement that is a personal mantra that I feel communicates who I want to be in the world. As an entrepreneur and someone who has developed my own systems my current Style Statement is “Confident Individual Pioneer“.
Now, once I have my Style Statement, I use the Polished Weekly Wardrobe Planning Worksheet to plan my looks for my week based on my activities. This ensures I always look the part! You can download it free by clicking below:
