Harnessing confidence is an essential part of realizing your goals and dreams, but it doesn’t come naturally to everyone. Most of us have to work on it from time to time. And that’s especially true when we are ready to level up! Therefore, if you’re on the business grind every day, it’s very important to look the part. It’ll go miles towards boosting your confidence – and landing those deals!
Every person’s version of looking the part will vary based on their industry. Your office dress code will come into play, as will your goals and your personal taste level. (For instance: are you climbing towards CEO of a Fortune 100 company, or are you looking to start a digital business that’s marketed on your personal brand? - Be prepared! Think about where you’re going and the impact that you want to make when you get there! Visualize yourself walking into the room. How should you look? Elegant? Sophisticated? Intelligent? All of the above? How do you want people to respond to you when you walk up and introduce yourself? Once you get clear on these things, it’ll be so much easier to plan an outfit.
- Invest in wardrobe basics! Plain black pants, simple white T-shirts, and dark blue jeans can feel boring, but you need them! Without these items, it’ll be more difficult to get dressed for a variety of occasions and atmospheres. For example, you can quickly transition your professional work outfit to a happy hour or casual dinner look by simply changing from a traditional pencil skirt to a pair of jeans and flats. (And don’t forget the power of accessorizing!)
- Hire a tailor! Nothing says that you have it together more than wearing clothes that fit you perfectly! As grown women, we all have bodies that are unique to us. Therefore, not every piece you see in your size is going to fit you perfectly. (Brands base their sizing on their ideal customer… which is why you’ll be 3 different sizes in 3 different brands when you shop! Annoying, right?) Use a tailor to make those special nips and tucks. Your confidence will SOAR when your clothes fit you correctly!
- Create a simple makeup routine! Looking the part is all about bringing your entire look together. I recommend creating a natural and professional makeup routine that you can do in under 10 minutes. The first thing that people see is your face, so let them know you made an effort. And for my no-makeup ladies, no problem! Just implement a good daily skincare routine and pop your lips with a natural gloss.
