Lover of fashion, passionate about personal image, and former fashion executive now dedicated to assisting professional women level up!
Hot take: winter fashion is ELITE! For many women out there, this season means sweatpants. Comfies. Oversized pieces. No makeup. Hair under a beanie or a ball cap most days. Less effort all around. And to that I say – if you get in the habit of making less effort during the winter (or ever!), you are not going to magically, suddenly, easily get back into it this spring. And this is especially true if you’re working from home. It’s no excuse! Great style never rests, and neither should you! That’s why I’m here to give you my winter wardrobe essentials for the professional woman!
We all know that layering is the name of the game this season, which is why you need versatile pieces that’ll slide right in to your weekly work ensemble. You need items that will make it easier to get dressed for your day, because nobody likes to throw on a put-together fit when the temperature isn’t going above 10 degrees! I promise you can still look great in the office this season – you just need a great selection, that’s all. (And my Weekly Wardrobe Planning Worksheet will eliminate the stress of getting out the door in a timely manner when your car’s covered in show!)
Let’s get into it!

Starting off strong with what is often the hardest part of any winter outfit! If you live in an area where you actually have winter weather, finding a boot that works with multiple outfits is essential. (I love booties, but tall boots keep you warm!) Do you like to keep some heels in your bag to toss on when you get into the office? Slingback pumps are having a massive comeback right now. They’re the perfect heel with tights!
Face it – you need to break out the Mary Poppins bag in the wintertime. You just need more room for your stuff: scarves, hats, jackets, fuzzy socks, hand warmers… the list goes on. Opt for a darker leather with a unique shape to keep it chic all winter. This is one of those items that’s worth the investment!
Gold is having a moment – and a lasting one at that. I find that these are the kind of pieces I always reach for in the winter! When you’re wearing turtlenecks and scarves and sweaters, you don’t want anything too big. (Otherwise you’ll feel like you’re drowning in a sea accessories and cable knit!) Keep it simple with smaller, more unique shapes. On the days where you’re tired of putting on 17 layers, these picks will help you stay elevated!
Two words: Mock. Neck. I love a warm sweater that doesn’t scratch at my chin all day! More of a solid color shirt kind of woman but you’ve been looking to get into prints? Winter is the perfect time to experiment! There are endless options in multiple colors, and they’re a great way to spice up what can feel like the drabbest season to get dressed in.
Maybe this is an unpopular opinion… but I like winter dresses more than summer dresses! Why, my friend? Well, because people shy away from dresses in colder weather! Most women are rocking pants all season long. But the Polished woman knows that going against the grain is what’s going to get her noticed. Slap on a pair of tights with a tall pair of boots, and any of these dresses will have you turning heads!
You didn’t think I’d leave these out, did you? I mean it when I say that a great coat is the most worthwhile investment you will ever make. Whether you’re throwing it on while leaving the gym or resting it on your shoulders while out at the ballet, a great coat is the ultimate winter level up. I love a statement color, but you can’t go wrong with a black, grey, or camel option!
