Does the idea of going shopping make you want to throw in the towel? Are you immediately overwhelmed by the thought of adding anything to your wardrobe? My friend, you are not alone – it’s understandable! Shopping isn’t necessarily something that’s fun for everyone, and it can be some people’s worst nightmare. Keep reading to discover 5 reasons why you hate to shop, and what to do about it!
It’s almost as if the amount of options we have makes it so much more difficult to find what we need! The truth is that we all have to shop eventually. And that is true whether you’re updating your basics or totally revamping your closet. Therefore, we need to have a game plan when we’re getting ready to swipe our credit cards, whether we’re going to the mall or shopping online! If shopping isn’t your thing, you’re not going to enjoy browsing without a goal in mind. You need to know what you’re looking for, and where to find it. And that’s what I’m here for!
5 Reasons Why You Hate To Shop, And What To Do About It:
- You get overwhelmed by all the choices. Shopping is not for everyone! Therefore, it’s important to break down the wardrobe building and style management process into manageable, digestible steps. Make a list of your current needs, and only shop for one category at a time (pants, tops, shoes, etc.)! This way, you can manage your time and stay focused. It’s very easy to feel overwhelmed and frustrated by the number of choices available to you.
- You feel like it’s a waste of time. Shopping does take time, but it’s totally worth it. Shift your mindset to consider what the right clothes could do for you. Think about the impact your appearance makes on your professional presence and first impressions. A whopping 75% of your body is covered in clothing at any given time. And it only takes 5-7 seconds to make a first impression about you, so make it count! Make the investment, because you know it’ll pay off.
- You can’t find anything you like. The next time you’re at the grocery store, flip through a fashion magazine while you’re waiting in the checkout line and see what catches your eye! Most fashion magazine spreads will list the brands and prices. Also, try seeking out influencers/bloggers whose style you like, and find out where they shop! They’ll always tell you in the captions, and they often have direct links where you can buy the exact pieces they’re wearing. (And you can always check out my suggestions! - You’re not sure what to purchase. Any well-developed wardrobe has a foundation of classic basic items that pulls everything together. So I definitely recommend that you start there! After that, take your time to add items you love to make your wardrobe come alive.
- You hate online shopping. I’d be lying If I told you that the era of malls will return in full force, and online shopping will go away. It’s here to stay, my friend, so we’ve got to accept it – and there are plenty of upsides! As shoppers, we now have the power to access a brand’s entire lineup instead of only the items available for our local store. What’s more, we can shop retailers from all over the world and have it delivered to our doorstep in a matter of days! Curious about what’s available across the pond? Two of my favorite UK retailers are Selfridges and Marks and Spencer.
