Identifying Your Core Brands for Your Body Type
There’s really no getting around it: there are ZERO sizing standards in the fashion industry. Trust me – I’ve run many international production programs for different brands. Each brand’s sizing scale is 100% up to them, and who they feel their core customer is. Therefore, it’s very important to identify the brands that cut their garments for your body and to shop for your type. I like to call these your “CORE BRANDS”!
To get started, take a look at the labels of your favorite ten garments, and write down all of the brand names. Every brand likes to be consistent when developing garments for their ideal customers, so it’s safe to say that you can expect a consistent fit with these brands!
Now, I’m not saying to ONLY shop your core brands. However, in a pinch, it’s nice to know where you can find something quickly that you can depend on to flatter you and fit you properly!
What’s more – if you’re not much of a shopper, you can cruise your core brand’s website, pick your items, order them, and be DONE! (If you want to go the extra mile, I highly recommend hiring a tailor so your garment fits like perfection!)

- Junior – Smaller frame with few curves
- Standard – Mature body with natural curves
- Plus Size – Larger scale body of all different shapes
- Petite – Very small body and features
- Tall – Need additional length for height
